Paper 3 Bullets for Topics 5, 8 & 10 and all other topic areas
Historiography for Cold War - Walter LeFeber
Prepare for your essays by seeking out quotes and positions on specific topics/bullets from notable historians. Gaddis and LeFeber are great for the Cold War, Howard Zinn is excellent on war-related or economic issues, Niall Ferguson is excellent on a variety of 20th Century topics, Stanley Karnow and Phillip Caputo are very good for Vietnam, and Bruce Cumings did interesting work on the Korean War.
Why use historians to frame your case studies/examples while using the PEEL (Point, Example, Evaluation, Link) model in a body paragraph? They help you to avoid getting mired in narrative and keep you focused upon evaluation/analysis. Too many papers devolve into story-telling, and while accurate historical examples are important, they alone will only render low to low-mid marks. Remember: Craft a strong thesis, make an argument, and carry it through to the bitter end with adequate attention paid to counter-argument(s).
